Dear Reader,
As you may have read in the press release of 5th July, we reported our strongest first half-year sales in 7 years. This success is a result of the hard work of all our staff as well as our innovation strategy and our focus on strengthening our technical competence. To that aim, RoodMicrotec has been participating in publicly funded projects in the fields of Automotive, Power Electronics and Industry 4.0 for many years. Being a partner in a consortium with leading technology companies enables us to benefit from new market potentials and know-how. It also means that we are well engaged with key players in these markets. At the moment, we are working on several projects and we are constantly identifying more interesting projects. These publicly funded projects are essential contributors to RoodMicrotec's competitiveness and growth. For the near future, we expect to participate in several of such new projects in different application fields. We are constantly focusing on expanding our capabilities in order to provide new and better services to our customers.
Best regards,
Martin Sallenhag, CEO

Well-prepared for the future RoodMicrotec is participating in four ongoing R&D projects
For many years RoodMicrotec has been working with its state-of-the-art technologies in publicly funded research and development projects. The expert know-how which is required for handling these projects is found particularly in the Qualification and Failure & Technology Analysis Departments. Both departments are contributors of RoodMicrotec's extensive portfolio.
The project ParsiFal (Produktfähige autarke und sichere Foliensysteme für Automatisierungslösungen in Industrie 4.0) aims to realize a thin flexible foil with integrated electronic chips for different purposes: pressure, vibration, magnetic field, temperature and humidity sensors, microcontrollers, wireless interfaces and energy harvesting components. The key of the new technologies is to fit very thin chips (50micrometers) from different suppliers to a foil that is flexible. RoodMicrotec is responsible for reliability, test and failure analysis. During this project, we have the opportunity to establish new test and analysis methodologies for several applications.

In the project ScaleIT (Skalierende Informations-und Kommunikationstechnologie) RoodMicrotec focuses on the development of practical Industry 4.0 solutions that can be used by large as well as small companies. Industry 4.0 means that production should have a high degree of automation and intelligent networking. Currently there are still many companies that have too many manual processes in their production lines. For this reason, the objective of ScaleIT is the development of a scalable technical platform, which provides measurements and data from sensors as well as intelligent tools and will be linked to existing IT systems. RoodMicrotec's contribution within the project is the development of intelligent test devices and process concepts for the IT infrastructure.

The project EuroPAT-MASIP (European Packaging, Assembly and Test Pilot for Manufacturing of Advanced System-In- Package) involves the development of ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) for a MEMS gyroscope as well as an image sensor, radio frequency ASIC, automotive wireless camera, WLAN front-end IC and intelligent car tyre sensor. RoodMicrotec supports the project with electrical tests, qualification and reliability tests as well as failure & technology analysis. Through our participation in the project, we will be able to refine existing expertise in all six areas.
(Source: EuroPAT-MASIP) The objective of the project GaNScan (full title: Mapping and modelling of industrial GaN/Si-wafer substrates for optimized yield production of GaN HEMT components in power electronics) is the research and development of electrical measurement and mapping processes for gallium nitride (GaN) based devices on GaN/Si wafers. At the moment, the GaN technology is going to be industrialized in the field of high frequency and power electronics. On this basis, there will be a need of qualified test and reliability processes for GaN technology in the near future. RoodMicrotec and its partners are in the early stage of the project. In the first step specifications of the hardware have already been developed. The next step is processing the wafers.

Joint workshop was a success Workshop Semiconductor Supply Chain Management in Kleve
On April 12th, the Business Cluster Semiconductor Netherlands (BCS) and RoodMicrotec organised a workshop about Semiconductor Supply Chain Management. The purpose of the workshop was to provide more insight into challenges and opportunities of SCM as a competitive model for the microelectronics industry.
During his speech, Jan de Koning Gans emphasised that (international) networking and cooperation in the semiconductor industry is needed to be successful. Combining core competencies and business strengths across partners, provides the basis for competitive and profitable business.
The speakers, whom we would like to thank once again for their contributions, were:
-Carolien Martens, ICsense
-Oliver Maiwald, Sencio
-Jens Krauße, First Sensor
-Reinhard Pusch, RoodMicrotec
-Jan de Koning Gans, RoodMicrotec
-Jürgen Gruber, RoodMicrotec
As a result of this workshop we have seen many new contacts being established, leading to new initiatives in cooperation in the field of ASIC supply.

Intelligent Test Devices Jonas Singh-Pervaiz presenting at the microTec Südwest Cluster Conference 2018
In this year's conference, Jonas Singh-Pervaiz, Funding Manager at RoodMicrotec, presented intelligent test devices and Industry 4.0 solutions on the shopfloor in connection with the research project ScaleIT. His presentation was primarily about intelligent test devices, including the development of an intelligent probe card, which will be used at RoodMicrotec.
To achieve Industry 4.0 is for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) quite difficult and expensive. Within the project “ScaleIT” RoodMicrotec wants to realize Industry 4.0 products and services specially for SMEs. In the presentation Jonas Singh-Pervaiz showed RoodMicrotec's progress from a normal probe card, which has a low interconnection with other systems, like the ERP, CRM, Collaboration Systems, to a better connected probe card with common systems and also with its own intelligence. The new smart test tool can now also collect data, like temperature, touchdowns and ID-information about the test device.
The presentation gained great feedback by the audience, especially by the SMEs that were present. They were very positive and a lot of new contacts were made. Based on the positive feedback and huge interest, the ScaleIT team regards the project already as a success.
